Hello my name is Mike and I am a local Loris golf coach with over 55 years of playing experience & over 42 years of teaching experience! I am also a PGA Certified Golf Professional and have been since 1990. I’ve been on the mission to help golfers of all ages and skill levels to “Simply Golf Their Best Since 1983”, when I became a full-time golf teaching professional. My golfing journey began as a 10 year old and it wasn’t long before I was totally hooked by the golfing challenges and I was competing in junior golf tournaments at the age of only 12.
Next, I worked my way to be the #1 golf player on my Oregon state championship winning high school golf team and then went on to the Division 2 Clark College golf team. My dream at age 16 was to be the best golfer ever and after I proved to myself that I could be a good enough player to turn professional, won 3 Amateur tournaments in a row and then landed a PGA Apprentice position at Corral De Tierra Country Club just outside of Monterey, CA to support myself. This is where I first realized that I was gifted to teach the great game of golf.
Long story short, I kept on my playing career journey and I played well in most of my tournaments, but the signs kept leading me to become a top teacher instead. In 1983, I accepted my first teaching professional position. While I love my success from helping others, I always remember the dream-but I was gifted to be a top teacher and I am proud that I followed my path. I have been rewarded by having the opportunity to help some 60,000 golfers in hands-on lessons. I also became the only PGA Professional to receive 3 PGA Teacher of the Year awards in 3 different PGA Sections and I was listed on the PGA of America’s 2006 Top 6 List of Best PGA Teachers in the U.S. I look forward to helping you to “Simply Golf Your Best” here in Loris! I teach golf lessons here in the Loris area and don’t travel at this time.
