About Jim

*INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED PLAYERS ONLY-NO BEGINNERS*

Hello, my name is Jim, and I am a local Bonita Springs golf coach. I played competitively through college and for a couple of years I also played professionally. Just a few of my playing accolades include-playing in 5 USGA Championships (1 U.S. Jr, 3 U.S. Amateurs, 1 U.S. MidAmateur). I also played college golf at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where I was a 4-year letterman on the men’s golf team. In 1988, I was recognized as the team’s ‘Most Valuable Player’ in addition to receiving the ‘Andy Hacskaylo’ Award, (Low Stroke Average Award). Following college, I played a couple of years professionally before realizing that living out of a suitcase wasn’t my thing. I also recognized I had a knack for helping players with their games, including many of my playing competitors. So, this lead me down the path of teaching/coaching which I have true passion for.

I have been teaching/coaching for the past 30 years; the following are a few accolades along the way: I have been ranked as one of the ‘Top 25 Teachers’ in the state of Florida by ‘Golf Digest Magazine’ (multiple years), I’ve coached several touring professionals from the PGA, LPGA, Champions & Nationwide tours. I was a Lead Instructor for the ‘Nicklaus-Flick Golf Schools’ (1997-1998); I was voted ‘Top 10 Golf Professionals of Naples’ (FL) by ‘Gulfshore Life Magazine’ back in 2006; I was also the Director of Instruction for the ‘Rick Smith Golf Academy @ Tiburon’ in Naples (FL), which was recognized as of one of the ‘Top 25 Golf Schools in America’ for 10 consecutive years (98-08) by ‘GOLF Magazine’. I founded/invented the ‘Inside Approach Slice Correction Trainer’ which was awarded the ‘#1 Swing Trainer of the Year’ by ‘Golf Digest Magazine’ for two consecutive years (2004 and 2005). I was a ‘Featured Instructional Editor’ for ‘Golf Illustrated Magazine’ for five years and have also been certified as a ‘Master Instructor’ by the PGTAA (Professional Golf Teachers Association of America). Currently, I am the Director of Instruction at Pelican’s Nest Golf Club in Bonita Springs worldwide where I offer my golf lessons.

Please contact me through my FindGolfLessons.com coach page and then I’ll contact you back within 24 hours to introduce myself, answer any questions and if you are interested, we will set-up your first golf lesson or playing golf lesson over at Pelican’s Nest Golf Club where I teach. Testimonials

"I have known Jim for about 16 years while he has been at various levels of instruction. After knowing him for a very short while, I decided to have him look at my swing. To me, there is no one more knowledgeable about technique and mechanics than Jim. He was very good at conveying his message in a way I could relate to, which is a special quality in a teacher. Even after I retired from the tour, he helped me keep my game in shape. He is a great coach and I highly recommend him to help you with your golf swing needs!"

Testimonials

"I worked with Jim on my game for 3 years, while I was a member of both the PGA and Nationwide Tours. Jim was an accomplished player prior to teaching so he understands the game from a player’s perspective. He knows that playing golf is different than playing golf swing. Having been a player himself, he’s able to effectively demonstrate what he’s teaching. Many times, it was easier to “see” what he wanted me to do by watching him illustrate with his own swing!"

3 Time Nationwide Tour Champion

Testimonials

"I started taking lessons from Jim after I fully retired in September of 2013. What impressed me about Jim was not only his ability to see the mechanical problems with my swing but his manner of putting the fixes in words, visuals and feelings I could understand and relate too. I’ve taken a number of lessons over the years, some from the best instructors out there. Jim’s simple explanations and demonstrations of the corrections I needed to make to my swing have allowed me, after following his advice, to go from around a 15 handicap to a currently trending 9 in a relatively short amount of time. At age 70 I think that’s simply amazing and I give much of the credit to Jim for making that possible!"
